HOWEVER, if you are prepared to pass your test sooner than our next scheduled session, please contact us. We are flexible and can add additional sessions as needed.

Getting your amateur radio license or upgrading your existing license is easy with the SCH.

FCC License Examinations: Technician, General, & Extra Class

Important Information About Testing at an SCH Meeting

  1. There is NO CHARGE to take exams with the SCH.
    • The only cost is the $35 FCC application fee (for first-time licensees), which must be paid directly to the FCC within 10-calendar days upon successfully passing your exam.
    • The FCC fee does not apply to license upgrades (Tech ->General or General ->Extra)
  2. Let us know you’re coming! Pre-registration is required! Just click on one of the scheduled sessions above and follow the online instructions.
  3. You may take more than one exam during a session. We only ask that you have studied for, and are prepared to pass the next level exam.
  4. Plan on a minimum of 15-20 minutes for each exam
  5. If you need special accommodations (such as large print, verbal exam readings, etc.), please let us know in advance
  6. You must bring a government issued Photo ID with you.
  7. YOU MUST HAVE AN FCC Registration Number (FRN) to take exams at an SCH test session! Candidates seeking to upgrade their license already have an FRN! The FCC will not process any applications without an FRN. You must obtain an FRN before the session if you are unlicensed. To obtain your FRN, simply follow the instructions at: https://www.fcc.gov/wireless/support/universal-licensing-system-uls-resources/getting-fcc-registration-number-frn
  8. When coming to a test session, be sure to bring: a current government issued Photo ID and your FCC Registration Number (FRN); original CSCE (if you are planning to take the General exam and have not received your callsign); proof of previous license (if your license has expired for more than 2 years, and you are looking for exam credit)

Disclaimer: Although we primarily utilize computer tablets at exam sessions, as with all technology, if there are unforeseen issues, we may resort to paper exams.
